One Light

Lamp

What are ‘I’ and ‘You’?
Just lattices
In the niches of a lamp
Through which the One Light radiates.

‘I’ and ‘You’ are the veil
Between heaven and earth;
Lift this veil and you will see
How all sects and religions are one.

Lift this veil and you will ask –
When ‘I’ and ‘You’ do not exist
What is mosque?
What is synagogue?
What is fire temple?

  1. Indeed if the separation of ‘you’ & ‘I’ do not exist there would be no separation of mosque, synagogue, temple.

Thank you for introducing me to Mahmud Shabistari. I shall certainly look him up.

    • Greetings,

Thank you for your visit and comments.

Shabistari is known for his classic, “Gulshan-i raz” (“The Garden of Mystery”) of which there are several translations (in English). I like one translated by Robert Abdul Hayy Darr.

      All good wishes,

      robert
